This was our third attendance on Late Summer Meeting. Walter treated all visitors with excellent demos of Šárka Jásenská, Vaclav Novak, Mauro Stemberger and Christian Przybylski. Also it was interesting to see again trees from his collection, and learn from them. Also from our last visit Walter has experimented with some new modern pots, that we like a lot.
Thanks Walter, and see you again soon.

On a way to Walter Pall’s garden, we stayed few days at our friend Matija Triglav in Slovenia, and split 1000 km long way in two parts. This has become tradition. We have talked about his excellent trees, and have brought with us some of our electric tools, so that he can try it. In his collection are mostly Prunus mahalebs, and also Pinus mugo, Picea abies, Carpinus oriantalis etc.
Matija’s blog you can find here: http://triglavbonsai-tijek.blogspot.com/

Mahalebs have strange character. We really like this type of material.

This Pinus mugo is impressive from all sides.

This Prunus mahaleb was too chaotic and optically heavy, so Matija has removed major part of the trunk, and make design more clear. It looks much better now.

One more Prunus mahaleb in excellent pot of Derek Aspinall (we are jealous!)

In Autumn we plan to repot it from wooden box. With a little luck, we hope not to plant it in standard pot, but in stone-like pot by Mateusz Grobelny.

If you have offer contact us.

This interesting clump – Phillyrea latifolia was collected in 2008. and put in big wooden box because of huge triangular nebari.
In the first season we roughly direct only main branches, and leave all to thicken. In October 2009. we have worked on tree with Walter Pall, drastic cut back was done. Also we have discussed about one part of nebari that possibly must be removed.

3/2010 it was time for repotting. Matija helped us. Part of nebari was cut to tree fit in the pot.

8/2010 Phillyrea latifolia

This is bonus tree. Actually we were collecting much better tree – Phillyrea latifolia No.2 and this tree was growing so close that we have to get it out to collect first one. So at end we went home with two trees. This is how tree looked like after collecting. It had almost finished very dense crown but unfortunately to high so we have to remove it completely.

Later we have shortened crown again more drastically, and make jin from one branch.
In September 2008. our friend Aleksa from Montenegro  visited us and try to be useful in our garden.

In March 2010. we have enlarged shari connected to jin branch.

This Strawberry tree, Arbutus unedo was collected in 2008. because of interesting hollowed trunk.

Soon after collecting we have removed secondary trunk and make hole on that spot.
Apex is left to grow freely  until next growing season, and then cut back.

Crown condensed quickly.

Few months ago we have improved nebari, by hollowing of two dead parts of it, and merging it with hollowed trunk. Chop is also handled to look better.

This is how tree looks like today… and now you have 5 seconds to find snail on penultimate photo  ;)
