Greenhouse

We have decided to build greenhouse, for recovering newly collected trees and as workspace in winter. In May works started, and lasted twice longer than planned.

When construction was done, we had put the foil.

Greenhouse is covered with quality EVA foil, of great elasticity and durability. It will resist to strong north wind called “bura” that often blows here.
La Blanche was sprayed on foil to shade greenhouse.

Still we have to organize paved workspace. But main thing is that plants are inside.

Matija’s Carpinus

In January Matija, our friend from Slovenia, was here for 20 days.We have worked really a lot, collected many trees for our collections. Until Croatia enter EU we are keeping his trees here. Here is one of his oriental hornbeams.

New sprouts 5/2010 and 6/2010.

It looks healthy. Probably Matija will do first styling in Autumn, when he comes again.

Phillyrea latifolia No.2 – developement

This Phillyrea latifolia was collected in 2008. Soon after collecting we have cut off all small branches and leaves.

Working on deadwood. Grandma is searching for new buds as signals that tree is well and alive.

In winter 2008 the first styling is done.

Transplanted in a pot – 2010.

In growing season 2010.

Carpinus orientalis No.1 – development

This is one of our first trees – Oriental hornbeam (Carpinus orientalis) that we have collected in 2007. First season we let it to grow freely.

The first styling was done on workshop in Kastela with Walter Pall in 2008.

In summer 2008.

Cutback and wiring in 12/2008. New shouts next growing season 2009.

In 2010. we have transplanted it from wooden box to bonsai pot.

Pistacia – two years of developement

This is Pistacia lentiscus – Mastic tree, a domestic in Mediterranean area where we live. It is evergreen tree. We have collected it in 2008. After potting whole crown was removed.

Our cat have spend many lazy afternoons sleeping in the box. First season tree reacted with abundant growth.

Summer 2008. We have shortened secondary trunk.

Some action about deadwood preservation with wood hardener is done in 2009.
This year we have finality transplanted it in pot.

Days of Bonsai in Vitturi Castle 3

Days of Bonsai in Vitturi Castle III with bonsai artist Walter Pall was held in Kastela, Croatia for weekend 27-28. III. 2010.
Two of us have organized this regional event for the third time in the name of Dalmatian Bonsai Club. Many bonsai growers from Croatia and near countries gathered again to learn about bonsai from one of the best contemporary bonsai artist.

On Saturday Walter held few very interesting Power Point presentations: Developemet of conifers, Developement of broadleaved trees and Photographing bonsai.
Second day on workshop we have worked on two oriental hornbeams (Carpinus orientalis).
