This Wild olive tree had big knob, so it was necessary to do something, make some deadwood to improve trunk line. Olives have very hard wood and it is not possible to work with hand tools, only with electric tools. Also it is hard to track veins during the work, as opposed to conifers. Here is the result and some virtuals of possible future look in the pot.

We have reorganized and improved our gallery. Development of every tree is shown on photos from collecting, through every year of development in the pot, till present day. Also inside gallery of each tree there is link to all blog posts about it.

On the first photo is tree (Quercus ilex – Holm oak) before work on deadwood. Secondary trunk, on right side was too massive, with a strait cut and not interesting. So the option was to improve it, make it optically lighter by making deadwood. Also on main trunk two holes  are  connected and enlarged now.

Big report with many photos of our trees is on Walter Pall’s blog. It is great pleasure to learn from people with big experience like Jim Doyle.

Even at temperatures around 35°C is possible to have fan and speak about bonsai. Walter Pall has visited us for few days, with his new assistant Walter Sedlaczek, and Jim Doyle from America.
We have talked all day around about our trees and possibilities, about horticultural and artistic aspects of bonsai. It is interesting to hear how somebody else perceive your tree, and after all this discussions we will review some of our decisions.

This is cultivated variety of Olive tree (Olea europea sativa) collected in 2007. As opposed to Wild olive variety (Olea europea Oleaster) this tree is not so popular for bonsai because of much bigger leaves and less abundant backbudding. So for some time we have considered grafting Wild olive branches on this tree, and give it up now. On this variety it is much easier to obtain flowers and fruits, and that can be interesting too.

This Strawberry tree was collected in 2008, and this is how it looks like today. There are many flowering buds on it at moment, and we aspect blossom by the beginning of the Winter.
