Archives for the month of: August, 2011

Randy Knight from Oregon, USA, was answering on Walter Pall’s questions about collecting trees from nature. This man is probably the best yamadori collector in the world. Not only due large amount of collected trees, but because extraordinary quality of raw material that he collects. We have learned a lot from his speech. Later I have met one young bonsaist that told me that all that that Randy was speaking he has heard before. Strange. The two of us have collected much more trees that this young man, but still we have learned a lot from Randy. When man with such knowledge and experience speaks, you don’t listen only the words, but also learn from his eyes.

Werner Busch from Germany, has presented Bonsai museum in Dusseldorf.

Demonstrators on the show were: Budi Sulistio, Zino Rongo, Mark Noelanders, Rene de Boni, Enrico Savini, Mauro Stemberger and Carlos van der Vaart.

More photos from exhibit.
Also we have to mention that it was possible to wach exhibition on Internet. Stefano Frisoni and Alessandro Aiello were recording  all the time and live streaming was on Laboratorio bonsaisensei channel.

On a way to Switzerland (BonsaiAutum) we hold up and visit our mentor Walter Pall. Hare are few photos from the wonderful garden.

We are honored to participate on big european exhibition in Switzerland – BonsaiAutumn 2011 with two trees Pistacia lentiscus #2 and Arbutus unedo #1.
Unfortunately two weeks ago we had here strong storm with hail. Arbutus suffer some damage and have small brown spots on leaves so  it is not neat enough for exhibition. That’s life.
But we are bringing Pistacia.

We have to run away from summer heat for a few days and go to Slovenia to visit our friend Matija who is returned home from USA. Since our last visit he has collected few more trees (pines and prunes). After tree months at Ryan Neil’s place he has shaped prunus and mugo pine collected four years ago. He has obviously improved his skills.
First day we were in forest searching for mushrooms. Great experience, almost like searching for yamadori.

This is new Pistacia collected in this season, in March 2011. Our friend Matija Triglav from Slovenia helped us digging and carrying the tree. He is in Ryan Neil’s garden in USA, already few months, learning, working and getting experience.
Collecting was very hard and slow. To place the tree into pot, we have cut large, thick root, preserving all fine roots. Tree is planted too horizontal and deep into pot, for horticultural reasons. This season it will grow freely, in winter we plan to remove all unnecessary branches and start to design it.
At last photo is virtual of possible future position.
